We have just had one of the most famous gardeners, authors, cooks and tv personalities anywhere visit our orchards and a good time was had by all. We sat around for a couple of days smiling and talking about the details. It was truly a great experience having Martha Stewart and her crew at our farm. Then came the next surprise -- an invitation to come to the show on the day it airs. Were we happy or what?!?!?!?
It seems that everyone was so pleased with the footage they shot at our house, Martha wanted us to be in the studio in New York when it came on. I could not believe it! I just kept asking myself if it was all a dream. Then the staff person confirmed it all with airline and hotel reservations and we started making plans to go. We never dreamed the truffle business could be so much fun -- and it only too six years of hard work.................
Watch Franklin Garland making a truffle omelette in Martha's Kitchen just like the one he made for all of us at Keep Your Fork Farm during Martha's visit. We got to sit on the front row and watch.
The motor cycle guys were there making cookies with Martha that day and the models from LaPerla Lingerie were there. It was a great Valentine's show.
Back in Stokes County, it was not hard to get back in the groove. There were truffles to hunt and find them we did. We sold some to individuals and chefs in Greensboro, Winston-Salem and Chapel Hill and enjoyed the rest ourselves.
2006-07 was definitely the year that was. We couldn't have been any happier if we had won the lottery. How do you top an experience like that?
Life on the farm will never be the same.
